| The movement does not give out Chieftancy
titles to its members because of the waste attendant to such
events. However the Movement has decided a way to honour some
of its members for the selfless services to the Movement through
an AWARD OF MERIT to encourage and recognise the contributions
of such members within the Movement and to spur them to greater
contributions and dedication.
The Award is tagged "MAR -ANWAR" which means -
MERIT
AWARD RECIPIENT (AN WAR)
The motto of the Award on the Certificate which is issued
to the recipient is
"AU
azzau - I -Insan Illa - I - Insan".
Meaning - "is there any reward for good, other than Good".
(SURAT RAHMAN-CH. 55V. 60)
The first set of the Merit Award Recipients at its inception
in 1991 were the following distinguished members: -
Alhaji B.D. Oshodi
Alhaji (Dr.) I.B. Jose, OFR
Alhaji (Dr.) Chief S.L. Edu, MFR
Alhaji Senator H.A.B. Fasinro
Aihaji Justice L.J. Dosunmu
Alhaji Justice Atanda Fatayi Williams - Chief Justice of
Federal Republic of Nigeria
Alhaja S.A. Alafia
Aihaja A.A. Gbadamosi
Alhaji Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola
The last Recipient was not a member of the Movement but was
honoured because of his good services and philanthropy.
Unlike the first two annual events the Merit Award is done
every 5 years to avoid it becoming monotonous and meaningless.
It can be proudly said that Anwar - ul Islam Movement of
Nigeria is the first Muslim Organisation to start the Merit
Award and thereafter others copied it and have done it yearly.
The Award Ceremony was again brought up in 1996 with more
Recipients both living and posthumous Awards.
Amongst those honoured in the 1996 Ceremony were the following:
-
Alhaji K.O. Tinubu - President of the Movement
Alhaji N. Ola Hammed - Former General Secretary of the Movement
