Alhaji Chkief S. L Edu emerged as the 6th President
of the Movement under a new Executive Committee Election of
11th November 1973.
At the time Chief S. L Edu assumed office as President, members
of the Movement were not allowed to go to Mecca because of
the name Ahmadiyya, which was associated with claim Ahmad
and the controversy of his claim to Prophethood.
The change of name from Ahmadiyya Movement in Islam of Nigeria
to Anwar-ul Islam Movement of Nigeria was effected by a Resolution
dated 12th May 1974 with overwhelming majority.
This was the first major achievement of his tenure which
spanned from 1973 to 1987.
With his election as President Alhaji Chief S. L. Edu relinquished
his post as Chairman of the Headquarters Building Committee,
but nevertheless, he was monitoring the progress of the work.
It was largely due to his effort and financial support that
the Headquarters Central Mosque was completed in 1980.
Late Alhaji Dr. Chief S. L. Edu was an accomplished business
Executive and a Millionaire so that when he became the President
he had to travel abroad from time to time.
But his indefatigable Vice - President Alhaji H. A. B. Fasinro
was virtually doing most duties in his absence.
In fact Alhaji H. A. B. Fasinro said as follows: -
"However, I give my praise to the Almighty Allah,
that for the 14 (Fourteen) years, I served as Vice - President,
I was the De Facto President of the Movement who was in
full charge of running its day to day activities. Al - Hamdu
lilahi Rabil Alamina".
The Presidency of Chief S. L. Edu was known for the unique
role of unifying factors and spending his wealth his wealth
for the upliftment of the Movement.
It was under his tenure that Anwar-ul Islam Men's League
was formed comprising of sons of founding fathers of the Movement
as well as other members who joined the Movement on their
own application.
His tenure also witnessed the founding of Anwar - ul Islam
Women's League comprising of the
Wives of members of Anwar - ul Islam Men's League and other
notable Ladies within the
Movement.
It should be placed on record that long after Chief S. L.
Edu had relinquished the post of President he continued to
support the Movement financially.
